About Me
S Swenson grew up on his parent’s horse ranch where they operated a riding stable. It was located along a long and winding creek outside of Sacramento, CA. The first thing Steve ever built was a raft made of old railroad ties (and yes it floated). He knew then that building things was fun and went on to building wood carts, benches, and other things. While in high school he found his love for wood again in wood shop, which is where he made his first bowl, for his mother.
Out of high school Steve joined the navy where he became a machinist, working with metal on lathes, milling machines and other equipment honing his skills. After the navy he went to Humboldt County, where he enrolled in College of The Redwoods. There he studied woodwork and graphic design, and he discovered a new way of looking at things. Carrying that with him, he moved to Paradise, CA in Butte County.
He then headed for Butte College and Chico State University, where he took more classes on woodcarving and some classes in CNC machining. Needing some income, he took a job as a carpenter building custom homes, where he worked until he ruptured a disc in his back requiring multiple surgeries.
With his ever-evolving skills and techniques, woodworking continues to be an excellent creative outlet for Steve. Today he has built his own shop where he makes one of a kind bowls, candleholders, specialty shelves and one of a kind specialty doors . He is now doing what he loves more than anything, working with wood.
